![]() OK time to split the model up into convenient parts ready for the UV mapping in Unwrap 3D, first hide all the other parts except the barrel by clicking the little dot (next to the object name) twice to make it red (meaning "not visible in editor", the dot below is "not shown in renderer") as shown 1,2,3,4,5 ![]() OK now select FACE MODE and 1. Select the faces on the end of the barrel, 2. RIGHT CLICK to bring up the menu, select EDIT SURFACE and 3. SPLIT and 4. Most IMPORTANT of all press DELETE Now!!! Split creates a duplicate object and delete gets rid of the parts that make up the first part...make sense? you end up with the barrel and the barrel end as two seperate objects... ![]() Doubleclick the name and rename it "barend" or something, best to name stuff so you'll remember when unwrapping later. ![]() Now hide the barrel and unhide the main part (click the red dot again to cancel) 1. select all the faces that face forwards as shown, 2. RIGHT CLICK select EDIT SURFACE in the menu and SPLIT again and 4. DELETE!!!!!! Rename the new part which will be below the original to someting like "mainfront" only problem with Splitting is it leaves POINTS behind in the first part I think....so clean em up in point mode :) ![]() Select the faces on the rear pad thingy (technical term) EDIT SURFACE>SPLIT and DELETE!! Rename again to "mainpad" or something.... ![]() Select the faces on that face towards the back and guess what??? EDIT SURFACE>SPLIT and DELETE!! Rename again to "mrear" or something else thats memorable....I'm naming all the parts in the main part so they start with an "m" the parts in the cell will start with a "c" etc... ![]() Select the faces on the front part EDIT SURFACE>SPLIT and DELETE!! Rename again to "minner" or something....basically splitting it into convenient parts that generally face the same way or can be cylindrically mapped etc.. ![]() This will basically leave us with the main cylindrical part which can be UV's with cylindrical mapping to unwrap it later ![]() Onto the Power Cell, unhide it and hide the other parts then 1,2,3,4 EDIT SURFACE>SPLIT and DELETE!! Rename again to "csides" ![]() Select the front and back faces of the cell and we're gonna do something different this time....no we're not :) EDIT SURFACE>SPLIT and DELETE!! Rename again to "cfront" ![]() As you can see on the right side you end up with a lot of groups. Also check that "DISABLE BACKFACE CULLING" is unticked so that if any faces are facing inwards etc (normals pointing the wrong way) you will be able to see through them etc, probably should of mentioned this earlier :) another TIP is make sure you are completely satisfied with the model before doing this and moving onto the Unwrapping as adding faces/points etc after its been UV'd will really mess up the mapping..The other thing I should mention is that theres only one fin now, why? Cus I'm gonna UVW map that one and duplicate it later to make the other 3 as we did before!! OK onto the next part in the excellent Ultimate Unwrap 3D!!!
